My First Attempt at Gerhard Richter Style Over-Painted Photographs

This was the result of my first attempt at creating over painted photographs inspired by the work of Gerhard Richter.

I tried two techniques that I previously identified from Richter’s work.

The first I used in the cat photo. I used the paint in alliance with the photograph, I used the paint to almost frame the subject in the photo, to compliment the subject.

The second technique was to deface the photograph, as though the paint is trying to vandalize the suject of the photograph.

I was pleased with both techniques and look forward to experimenting with more colours and experimenting with different patterns using the squeegee.
